This works absolutely fine with all of my international English versions of the various Gen I games (and other GB generations too), but I cannot open the Japanese Pokémon Green save file in PKHeX. It can only be executed early in the game (as in, it requires a new game), but will get you to the Hall of Fame and the ending in only around fifteen minutes.
